We are two western adventurers who have spent extensive time travelling in the Himalayas. We have been based in Himachal Pradesh for the past four years. We came originally on a six-month visa to see some of the hidden landscapes of the Himalayas, beginning our journey in Dharamshala, where we were fortunate enough to meet his holiness The Dalai Lama XIV. From there we travelled all around Himachal, basing ourselves in the small pilgrimage town of Tso Pema. We also travelled to Kathmandu, Darjeeling and several more Himalayan destinations. We have renewed our tourist visas on many occasions in order to soak up the unique essence of the Himalaya and its people. Since 2017 it is possible to apply for a one-year visa from the EU and the UK for extended travel in India. (see Visa)
During our time in Himachal Pradesh, we have been fortunate to meet and integrate with the Indian and Tibetan communities. We have taught English on a voluntary basis in the local monastery to young monks who have come from poverty or are orphaned. Most of these boys have travelled from Nepal, Sikkim, West Bengal, Tibet and Bhutan. The aim of Pure Himalaya is to help improve the living conditions of marginalized groups living in the Himalayas. We donate 20% of the profits towards medicine, food, clothing and housing.
We work with the local people of the Himalayas to bring you an exclusive insight into the heart of this majestic region. Our trusted friend Lobsang, and his team will share the spirit of the Himalayas with you. We look forward to seeing you on one of our Himalayan tours in the near future.
